ADHD medication management for San Diego, by telehealth
I'm Erik Lee, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC, ADHD-CCSP) licensed in California and Oregon. I provide ADHD medication management by video to adults 21 and older who live, work, or study in California, with occasional in-person visits at my San Diego office in Scripps Ranch. Who this is for
The best fit is an adult who already has an ADHD diagnosis, is on medication or has been in the past, and wants a prescriber who is thorough, reachable, and not in a hurry. Many of my patients also have a therapist, and I work with that therapist rather than around them. I also see adults who suspect ADHD and want a proper evaluation, and adults whose ADHD sits alongside depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, or bipolar disorder.
I don't treat children or teens, and my California minimum age is 21.
Insurance for California patients
I am in network with Anthem Blue Cross (PPO and most HMO plans), UnitedHealthcare PPO, and ComPsych. If you have a Blue Cross or Blue Shield plan from another state, it is almost always accepted through the BlueCard program, which is common for people who recently moved to San Diego and kept their old employer plan.
Blue Shield of California is a different company from Anthem Blue Cross and is not accepted. Medi-Cal and Medicare are not accepted. If you are unsure which plan you have, look at the top left of your card: Anthem plans say "Anthem" and Blue Shield of California plans say "Blue Shield of California." You can also verify your insurance eligibility before booking.
Just moved to San Diego?
If you arrived with an ADHD prescription from another state, you have a practical problem: stimulant prescriptions can't be transferred between states, so you need a new prescriber before your current supply runs out. Bring your most recent prescription bottle or pharmacy printout and, if you have them, records from your previous prescriber. In most cases I can continue an established, working regimen at the first visit after a full intake. If you are on an out-of-state Blue plan, BlueCard usually means you don't need to change insurance to see me.
What visits cost
With in-network insurance you pay your copay, coinsurance, or deductible. If you have a high-deductible plan, expect to pay the full contracted rate until your deductible is met, roughly $500 to $650 for an intake and $325 to $400 for a 20-minute follow-up depending on the plan. Self-pay rates are $550 for an initial evaluation and $325 for a follow-up. A credit card on file is required for out-of-pocket charges.
How visits work
The intake is a 45-minute video visit covering your history, current symptoms, prior treatment, medical factors, and goals. If the diagnosis is clear and treatment is safe, we discuss medication at that first visit. Follow-ups are 20 minutes by video, more often while adjusting a regimen and every two to three months once it's stable. I prescribe both stimulant and non-stimulant medications when clinically appropriate, order labs and genetic testing when useful, and coordinate with your therapist and primary care provider with your consent. In-person visits are available occasionally at 10620 Treena St, Suite 230, San Diego.

I trained at the University of California, San Francisco, and have practiced since 2015. I hold the ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider credential and see adults with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and related conditions across California and Oregon. Do you take Anthem Blue Cross?
Yes, PPO and most HMO plans. HMO plans may require a referral from your primary care physician; check with your plan.
Do you take Blue Shield of California?
No. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California are separate companies in California.
Can you prescribe stimulants by video?
Yes. Federal and California rules currently allow controlled-substance prescribing by telehealth after a proper evaluation. I check the California CURES database before prescribing, as required.
How soon can I be seen?

Do I need a therapist to see you?
No, but if you have one I will coordinate with them. I focus on medication management and can refer you to therapists in San Diego if you want one.
